World leader in field of catalytic organic chemistry
P1 P2 P3 P4Alper is renowned as a developer of tools to synthesize and modify molecules. His simple and practical methods are now being used by pharmaceutical companies in their search for new drugs to counter bacterial resistance to antibiotics. He holds more than 30 patents based on his research, and has authored or co-authored over 430 scientific papers.
Alper recently received the first Herzberg Medal (formerly the Canada Gold Medal for Science and Engineering). This medal is Canada's Natural Science and Engineering Research Council's highest honour, bringing with it up to one million dollars in research funds over five years.
