Whitlock is a reactor physicist for AECL (Atomic Energy of Canada Ltd.) at Chalk River Laboratories, and a Past President of the Canadian Nuclear Society (CNS). He also chairs the Education and Communication Committee of the CNS. Whitlock is a specialist in CANDU reactor physics (CANDU is Canada's major commercial nuclear reactor technology). He is currently working on the physics analysis of CANDU fuel cycles, as well as the nuclear commissioning of two MAPLE medical radioisotope production reactors at Chalk River. He maintains a personal website addressing "frequently-asked-questions" (FAQs) about nuclear power in Canada, at www.nuclearfaq.ca.
